Q?

What methods specifically does your clinical team use to help clients?

A.

  • Psychotherapy
  • Mentoring
  • Group Engagement Activities
  • Outbound Adventures

Q?

Is a 2,2,1,2 in-house and home care program enough to support an individual overcome a mental health struggle? (*2 weeks at the Alive for Wellness Center, 2 weeks back home with after care support, 1 week back at the Alive for Wellness Center, 2 months of home care support when back home)

A.

When combined with the Home Care program, we believe that our clients receive the perfect blend of treatment methods in a sufficient time period. People have busy lives and a limited budget, so Alive works to provide what is necessary and required. Those clients requiring a longer time to recover may come back for a refresher week or extend the Home Care program.

Q?

What kind of support does a client receive in the at-home after-care program?

A.

They do one therapy session with their therapist via video conferencing, one facilitated group session, and are able to maintain contact via text and email. Additionally, all clients are encouraged to use the app which pushes 3 communications out each week.

Q?

Why is it recommended I bring a person with whom I am close to and can trust to do the program with me (friend, sibling, parent)?

A.

Because the person acts as a support while going through the program, as well as supporting you when you return home.

Q?

What do the outdoor activities have to do with improving one’s mental health?

A.

Outbound Adventures was created when Alive’s clinical researchers discovered the Harvard study that showed that cardiovascular exercise increases the chance of overcoming depression by up to 35%. Outbound Adventures makes cardio fun and adventurous. It’s like watching your favourite television show while on your treadmill at home - time flies by and you feel healthier and less stressed afterwards.

Q?

What if I am not fit enough to do the outdoor program?

A.

Over the years, 20% of our clients have come from a sedentary lifestyle. So, each day we begin building up a person’s physical fitness. Outdoor activities are broken into low and medium cardio groups. Because of the positive impact of healthy, physical activity, the Outbound Adventure plays a significant role in the Alive program and is mandatory for attendance.

Q?

What if I can’t afford the full program?

A.

We have a sliding scale rate based on income.

Q?

Why does Alive emphasize lifestyle in regaining strong mental health?

A.

Part of the equation in restoring mental health is self-care. Learning to administer high levels of self-care, starting with physical and relationship health, allows an individual to more easily administer self-care to their psychological functions.

Q?

What level of success do clients who complete the program have?

A.

Those who complete the program have a 68% success rate of achieving their mental health goals.

Q?

What if I don’t like to be around people?

A.

We are sensitive to individuals who need more private space and free time, so we provide this as needed. Nonetheless, group activities can play a powerful role in recovery because they produce encouragement, validation and engagement. These are critical to any recovery process.
